Awesome Power Track Club was formed in 2003 by Coach Sean Phillips. His intentions were to provide a safe haven for athletes after school where scholarship and character building would be priority. This mission attracted Coach Lenroy Raffington who was anxious to dedicate his free time and knowledge of the sport to such a worthy cause. The athletes are taught time management skills in that practices are regularly scheduled and club participation is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance. Awesome Power Track Club provides a service to the community in occupying the idle time of the athletes and utilizing all resources in hopes of obtaining collegiate scholarships for each athlete.The club also consists of a Board of Directors that brings forth very diverse backgrounds and is able to expose the club to a variety of networking opportunities such as Team Jamaica Bickle. In conjunction with the Board, Awesome Power coaches work toward obtaining various sponsors to aid in their success with the Club. Among the sponsors thus far is “The Door” (Restaurant located on Guy Brewer Blvd., Queens NY). The Door provides the athletes with balanced meals to ensure their health and strength through practice and competitions.Through the hard work and dedication of Awesome power Tack Club and it’s athletes, alumni Nikeshia Brown, Aleisha Woodley and Candace McFarlane became the first products of Awesome Power in moving on to colleges and Universities on full athletic scholarships! We are working diligently to provide the same opportunities for our current seniors.
